The programme includes: • Extensive music making for violin, viola, cello and double bass players • Core programme of orchestral sessions, with music chosen to suit the experience of those attending • Chamber sessions for beginners, intermediate and more advanced players, drawing on the western heritage of music for string trios, quartets and quintets • Coaching in technique for all stringed instruments to suit various stages of experience • Optional sessions providing opportunities to explore aspects of baroque, classical, contemporary, jazz and folk music. • Additional sessions for composition, avoiding stress injury, singing, playing by ear • Opportunities in visual arts |
Chamber Music Sessions The chamber sessions are a key element in the Summer School. Participants are grouped into ensembles for the duration of the course and allocated a tutor whose time is divided between two or three ensembles. If you wish to specify a pre-formed ensemble, please indicate this on your application form, together with the names of fellow ensemble players. |
Cellists and Chamber Music Depending on the number of participants attending the Summer School and the instruments they play, we may have to allocate some cellists into cello only ensembles. We allocate places in mixed ensembles on a first come, first served basis, according to the date we receive your application, unless cellists specifically request the opportunity of playing in a cello only ensemble on their application form. |
